Polybond
David Booth

Oct 21—Nov 7 2021

David Booth is an award winning Visual Artist born and based in Dublin. Booth’s practice spans traditional oil painting, portraiture, and mixed media works. He uses photographs as a starting point in a process geared toward finding a balance of realism and graphic abstraction. Booth’s work focuses on and around contemporary portraiture. He uses a large variety of mediums and techniques to supplement his approach while keeping with traditional techniques that surround oil painting. Booth’s finished pieces tend towards formal portraiture and often end up as diptychs, triptychs or multiples; positioned for and against each other.

The driving force within Booth’s work is the juxtaposition of the subject and the instrument, binding the traditional portraiture approach with a graphic reproduction of images as they relate to the imagined self. Most of the paintings in this exhibition ‘Polybond’ were made since early 2020. The works aim to hold a symbolic charge; shifting between realism, graphic iconography, the organic, and a mechanistic aesthetic.
