Salvatore’s aptly titled show, ‘Melodrama’, plays as an allegory of family and friends navigating through the turmoils of 2020 lockdowns and restrictions channeled through 20 characteristically unique pastel artworks. Confined to his home without the luxuries of an artist’s studio, Salvatore turned to pastels as a means of artistic expression, straying from his usual style of acrylic paintings.
While living with his mother, sister, and grandmother, Salvatore explores themes of family unity, cohabitation, and the persistence of ageing in a society that has become increasingly uncertain and unpredictable. These motifs are explored through vibrant pastels, striking hues, and stylistic figures that accumulate into a grand showcase of life through Salvatore’s eyes.
