Salvatore of Lucan

Salvatore of Lucan is a painter. Through his large scale works he attempts to communicate clearly a sense of the world he inhabits that is both tangible and emotional. Exploring home, identity and relationships, he creates expansive domestic scenes where realism meets the uncanny, and the familiar broaches the magical.

His first solo show, Show of Himself took place in Pallas Projects in 2018. He has been nominated three times for the Zurich Portrait Prize in the National Gallery with his paintings Me and My Dad in McDonald's (2018), Lucy With Three Hands and Me Holding on to Her Leg (the 2019) and his winning painting Me Ma Healing Me in the 2021. He has also won the Whyte’s Award, was nominated for Hennessy Craig Award in the RHA, appeared in RTE’s ‘Exhibitionists’ documentary and has received the Arts Council’s Next Generation Award. Salvatore is currently developing a solo show of large scale paintings for the Kevin Kavanagh gallery.
