The ethos behind Hang Tough Contemporary is to make unique, unparalleled artistic talent readily available to a discerning and engaged audience and to become one of Ireland’s leading contemporary art galleries.

Now in its eleventh year, Hang Tough Studio have established themselves as experts in bespoke, archival framing, as well as being exhibitors of unique and innovative artwork. These distinctive exhibitions and print releases were previously under the moniker of ‘Hang Tough’, however 2021 marked the emergence of a dedicated gallery space located at No.4 exchequer Street: Hang Tough Contemporary.

This organic expansion has come about as a reaction both to the abundance of exciting creativity and talent around us, along with a recognition of the pent-up appetite among the public for cultural engagement. Through our gallery offering, we aim to provide a platform for both emerging and established visual artists, while simultaneously accommodating an experience where art can be appreciated and enjoyed in vibrant, accessible settings.

Hang Tough Contemporary is a sleekly designed, purpose-fitted exhibition space in the heart of Dublin’s city centre. With large, arresting windows giving passers-by the opportunity to catch a glimpse of our vibrant collections, the gallery benefits from it’s excellent central location and high footfall. Since launching in September 2021, Hang Tough Contemporary has quickly become a new cultural destination for both locals and tourists, offering visitors an exciting cross-section of Ireland’s rich art’s scene.

about the curator

Michael Hennigan

With over a decades’ worth of experience delivering fine-art services to customers, Michael ‘Rubio’ Hennigan is the director of Hang Tough Fine Art Printing and Framing Studio, and most recently, Hang Tough Contemporary.

Hennigan’s passion for art – and the art scene in general – first manifested itself in photography, eventually leading him to establish Hang Tough in 2011. From humble beginnings, the business quickly gained momentum among discerning artist and customers and garnered a reputation for its contemporary approach and stylish design aesthetic, with an ever-present focus on artwork care. Naturally, creative relationships emerged and developed over the years, resulting in exciting and dynamic collaborations with some of the very best national and international artists. Hennigan has always understood the value and importance of nurturing these relationships, and so, Hang Tough is in the unique position of maintaining fantastic rapport with established artists and collaborators, while also discovering and inviting new up-and-coming talents into the creative fold.

At it’s core, Hang Tough Contemporary strives to offer a highly-visible platform for the abundance of talented artists throughout this country and far beyond, while offering its visitors a stunning, fully-realised modern gallery experience. The possibilities and ambitions of the gallery and its collaborations are endless, and it is this enthusiasm and ever-changing engagement that constantly drives the gallery forward.
